A Place in History
Baton Rouge is legendary for its colorful attractions and history. We're not only Louisiana's state capital, we're home to Louisiana State University and Southern University - two major NCAA competitors. Baton Rouge is home to Southern University, the largest historically African American university in the world. The country's first bus boycott occurred here in 1953 and was a model for the Montgomery boycott of 1955. The Br'er Rabbit stories were first told near here. Whether your interest is birding or alligators, you'll enjoy one or more of a dozen or so swamp tours that can be found in about a 45-minute radius of Baton Rouge. Each offers something different and special - from A to Z!
